Abington Ward

The ward is split by the Wellingborough Road and covers the area to the north up to Ivy Road and including Abington Avenue, Park Avenue South, one side of Whitworth Road and all the streets in between. The south side includes King Edward Road, Christchurch Road, one side of the Billing Road and the streets up to and including East Street.

Irene Markham

Irene Markham has been Borough Councillor for Abington Ward for 8 years and is currently Deputy Chair of the Licensing Committee. Irene was born in Northampton and lived in Lea Road in Abington for 30 years. She is a former Governor of Stimpson Avenue School which was attended by her youngest son. Irene has worked at Northampton General Hospital for over 25 years. Irene Says" traffic and parking are always the issues that people raise on the doorstep along with potholes and pavements but these are thing controlled by the Conservative County Council" . We do however report problems that come to us and people appear to appreciate that their Lib Dem Councillors keep in touch with regular Focus newsletters throughout the year not just when there are elections."

Irene was Mayoress during 2008/09 and enjoyed meeting so many people across the town especially those who work so hard for charities and voluntary groups.
