“Shameless and arrogant” Cllr Sally Beardsworth slams Conservative decision to spend taxpayers money on an assistant for their assistant

Leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Northampton Borough Council, Cllr Sally Beardsworth, has today slammed the Conservative administration's decision to spend thousands of tax-payers money on a new political assistant at the same time as cutting £100k from PCSOs.
Cllr Beardsworth "Has the Tory Leader bitten off more than he can chew? Is this an admission that he can't do the job himself? That he has to employ an extra member of staff to assist him to run the council, on top of the existing Cabinet support, is a disgraceful waste of local tax-payers cash."
"Since the introduction of political assistants all other administrations have managed with one. The Conservatives obviously need two. This is a slap in the face to the taxpayers. By choosing to fund their own office and cut frontline policing the Tories have revealed where their priorities lie - and it isn't on the side of local people. The arrogance of the Conservative administration, and political patronage shown, is quite shameful. Local people want services protected, not back office staff serving the Conservatives."
