Figures released by the Northamptonshire Liberal Democrats County Councillors show that there are likely to be a shortage of places for people suffering from dementia in the county.
Councillor Marion Minney
Speaking at a Northamptonshire County Council Cabinet Meeting Councillor Marion Minney (Lib Dem - Headlands, Northampton) expressed concern at the level of provision. The points she made included:
"Northamptonshire County Council had 231 Dementia places in its care homes until changes started to take place. When the proposed changes are complete, there should be around 250 places. Figures issued by Northamptonshire County Council in their "Transforming accommodation - based care for older people in Northampton" indicated that there are possibly over three thousand people in the County with Dementia at this time, consequently these 250 places including the 20 additional places agreed by NCC Cabinet recently, may not be enough.
