A thousand roses will be planted in Abington Park's memorial garden this week.
Lib Dem-run Northampton Borough Council is working with Choices Horticultural to plant hundreds of red, yellow, white and pink roses to complete the park's memorial garden. The new memorial garden will be in full bloom next spring.
Earlier this year, Borough Council gardeners spotted flowers were on the wane due to the condition of the soil. So plans were drawn up to find a new place for the garden.
Planting the new roses will mean everything is in place for people to enjoy next year.
Commenting on the new arrangements, Cabinet member for the Environment, Cllr. Trini Crake (Lib Dem, Boughton Green), said:
"The garden is a special place for people wanting to enjoy a little peace and quiet in Northampton.
"Abington Park always get a positive mention by East Midlands in Bloom and is a place the town takes pride in.
"The flowerbed will look fantastic next summer just in time for Northampton 2010 entry into Britain in Bloom."
