Cleaning up Victoria Park

July 16, 2008 12:28 PM

Later this month Victoria Park will get a big clean up thanks to the Community Payback Mayoral Project.

Northampton Borough Council and the Unpaid Work Unit at Northampton Probation will work in partnership on Tuesday 22 July to tidy up the bushes and undergrowth in the park. The borough council's neighbourhood wardens organised the tidy up following reports of anti-social behaviour in the area. The excellent working relationship currently established means that resources can be pooled from a variety of areas which will improve community safety at Victoria Park. Bushes and undergrowth will be cut back and removed to make the northern edge of the park a lighter and more welcoming area.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Brendan Glynane, Northampton Borough Council's cabinet member for community safety said: "Park users have told us that they would feel safer if the bushes and undergrowth in Victoria Park were tidied up. Our parks should be a welcoming space for the whole community to enjoy and relax in, so we have taken this opportunity to use the Community Payback Mayoral Project to tidy up the park."

The clean up will be lead by the local neighbourhood warden, Andy Langton and Lindsey Robinson from Northampton Probation Service. The Mayor of Northampton, Councillor Brian Markham will be attending the clean up in Victoria Park at 11am on Tuesday 22 July. The majority of the work will take place at the northern edge of the park (at the rear of Steene Street).
