Pupils will not benefit from a safer route to Green Oaks Primary School this financial year, according to the Tory-led, Northamptonshire County Council.
Green Oaks Primary School, now situated at Whiston Road, Kingsthorpe, was newly built under the Northampton based PFI scheme and should have benefited from engineering works this year including the introduction of a 20 mph zone with traffic calming. This work has had to be cancelled due to the poor state of the roads around the school. The Council's Highways Department claim they have no money to improve the roads.
Cllr. Jane Hollis
Local Councillor, Jane Hollis (Lib Dem, St David's) says "This is another blow for Green Oaks Primary School, which has suffered significant snagging problems to the building and a playing field which is redundant because of building rubble not removed at completion."
The Safer Routes to School Project should have been completed earlier this year.
