Cllr Tony Woods says benefits fraud will be dealt with decisively under the Liberl Democrat administration
A 30-year-old Northampton woman has been charged with fraudulently claiming benefits of over £8,000 and been ordered to repay the overpaid benefits.
Northampton Borough Council was alerted to the fraud after receiving a 'Right to Buy' request for the council home of the claimant.
The discrepancy was passed to the council's fraud team for further investigation and was found to be fraudulent.
The case was brought by Northampton Borough Council which is continuing to clamp down on benefit cheats to deliver greater value for money.
Councillor Tony Woods, Leader of Northampton Borough Council, said: "We take a tough line on benefit cheats. Let's make no bones about it, people who claim benefits they are not entitled to are cheating the rest of us.
"This is money from the public purse. We will do all we can to ensure the cheats don't get away with it."
Anyone who suspects someone is fraudulently claiming benefits can contact the council on Northampton 837320.
