Sir Menzies Campbell is to visit Northampton tomorrow
Sir Menzies Campbell, Liberal Democrat party Leader, is to visit Northampton tomorrow to celebrate the party's election win at the Borough Council and launch their first major initiative on the environment.
Sir Menzies (Ming) will first take a tour of the town centre with the Borough's Town Centre Neighbourhood Warden, before launching the council's Carbon Management Programme at a meeting of local party activists and newly elected councillors at the Guildhall.
Leader of the Council Tony Woods said:
"We're delighted to welcome Ming to Northampton, to celebrate this historic election win for the Liberal Democrats.
"During the visit Ming will meet the town centre warden to find out how the Liberal Democrat's initiative to launch a neighbourhood warden scheme is helping to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and keeping Northampton's streets clean.
Along with Councillor Trini Crake, portfolio holder for Environment, Ming will then formally launch the council's Carbon Management Programme at the Guildhall. Speaking about the launch, Cllr Trini Crake said:
"Tomorrow will see the launch of the Carbon Management Programme and our aspiration to reduce the council's carbon footprint by 20% by 2010.
"This is a very exciting time for Northampton and we are determined to drive environment up the agenda and make a positive impact on reducing our carbon emissions. I am very pleased that Ming will be here to highlight the seriousness of this issue and also to celebrate our election win."
