The desperate Tories have resorted to lies and scare tactics just hours before the polls open on Thursday. They claim that there are Lib Dem plans to put Traveller's Sites on former school sites in Parklands and Kingsthorpe.
This is a LIE. It is a complete fabrication designed to mislead the public.
Where did it come from? In our latest election newspaper we suggested a possible solution to the problem of illegal traveller's sites. Neither the Tories nor Labour have had the honesty or the courage to even think about the problem.
The problem is that there are insufficient legal sits so the police cannot quickly move travellers from illegal sites. A possible solution is to insist that the developers of very large housing sites - those with several thousand homes - should be required to provide small traveller's sites - for 4 to 6 vans only (to encourage their use by single family groups). Since the government is insisting that Northampton will be have at least 30,000 new homes over the next few years any new traveller's sites (and we would only need a small number) could be well screened, located well away from existing homes and planed to cause the minimum of problems.
The Tory spin doctors misquoted this, added some lies they made up themselves and have tried to mislead the public.
They know they have failed over the last four years and that the public are turning against them in this election. They are so desperate that they have resorted to lies.
