Ed Davey MP, the Liberal Democrats campaigns supremo, is to visit Northampton again on Thursday 26 April to check out the prospects of a Lib Dem victory in the town and to provide a last minute boost to local Liberal Democrat campaigners as they press home their challenge to take control of Northampton Borough Council.
Local Lib Dem Group Leader, Tony Woods, said, "Ed Davey visited us last December before the beginning of our local election campaign. He set us some very challenging objectives - including winning overall control of the Borough Council. We believe we are very clearly on track to win on 3rd May. Ed is coming back to check on progress.
"The party nationally are taking notice of what is happening in Northampton. They know that the Borough Council has performed very poorly under both Conservative and Labour administrations. They also know that the performance of Councils, including Liverpool, Islington, Watford and Newcastle, have improved dramatically under Liberal Democrat leadership. If we are successful on 3 May we will have access to all of that expertise to help us turn round Northampton's failing Council - dubbed the 'World's Worst Council' by the local press".
