Just hours after the Lib Dems called for the subsidy to the Northampton Door to Door Service to be restored the Borough Council did a U-turn and increased the subsidy to allow free travel (as opposed to the previous half fare travel) for elderly and disabled people.
Borough Council Lib Dem Leader, Tony Woods, said "the cut in the subsidy was an unexpected and unintentional side effect of the Borough Council reducing some bus subsidies and the government's new rules that went with the new free bus travel for pensioners. I am delighted the error was corrected quickly and this valuable service can continue. Lib Dems will look at extending the service in the future as there is obviously a large unmet demand for this fantastic service."
