Liberal Democrat Borough Councillor for Spencer Ward Cllr Paul Concannon has decided to stand down from the Borough Council due to personal matters. He has today submitted his resignation to the Borough Council's Chief Executive.
Commenting on his resignation Lib Dem Group Leader Cllr Tony Woods said "Paul has resigned his seat because of personal ill-health and urgent family commitments that mean he cannot dedicate the time he feels is needed to serving the people of his ward. We understand the situation and fully support Paul in his decision -- however he will be a great loss to politics locally. We need more people of Paul's calibre and with his caring nature and dedication to the job of being a Borough Councillor."
Paul had only recently joined the Liberal Democrat Group on the Council in November after resigning from Labour in March.
Cllr Woods continued "We were aware of some of the problems when Paul joined the Liberal Democrats. Unfortunately things have taken a turn for the worse leaving him with a painful decision.
We wish Paul all the very best in the future and hope that, once his current problems are resolved, he will consider getting involved in local politics again."
