Putting the pride back in Northampton

In 2007, the Liberal Democrats won control of Northampton Borough Council after years of neglect by the two old parties.

With less than a year to go before next year's Borough Council elections, we are fighting hard to win a second term to build on the town centre regeneration and improvements to the town's 12,500 Council homes started in 2007.

We currently have 24 Councillors on Northampton Borough Council, your local authority in charge of planning and regeneration, history and heritage, parks and car parks, refuse and recycling, benefits and social housing. This leaves us in overall control next to the Conservatives' 15 and Labour's 5.

We also have 9 Councillors on Northamptonshire County Council, which is reponsible for roads, schools and social services across the county. This makes us the Main Opposition to the Conservatives' 51, with Labour in third place on 6.

Whether in the Guildhall or County Hall, Northampton Liberal Democrats are working hard to put the pride back in our county town after being let down by New Labour and Northampton's same old Tories.

In the Guildhall, we are making real changes to the town's public spaces and Council homes. In County Hall, we have consistently opposed Tory mismanagement of the local public finances and have argued for a longer-term view of Council Tax, which would have avoided today's cuts to local roads and social care budgets.

If you share our values of a fairer society and financial responsibility, there has never been a better time to get involved. We are looking for and voluntary Campaigns Assistants to help put our case to local people. With an historic referendum set to take place on the same day as next year's local elections, it's sure to be an exciting year.

Getting involved is compatible with your day-job and family life. To find out more, call our Abington HQ or your local Councillor direct:
